Today we began by revisiting the following vocab terms: bourgeoisie, proletariat, exploitation, class consciousness and Marxist revolution. We also walked through the timeline on the Russian Revolutions. We added the events of 1917. For homework I asked you to research two people/groups/events from yesterday's lesson; after today's activity I hope you are interested to research some more to fill any gaps in your understanding that are surfacing. I issued a study guide for the Provisional Govt of 1917. I know it seems like there are many groups under discussion and they all want something different, but if you keep the political spectrum in mind it will help you decide what their goals/motivation is. The study guide helps illuminate how poorly the P.Govt read the desires of the people. The reaction to the April Thesis helps show that not all Bolsheviks saw the same vision for the Party (or the revolution).
I'd like you to complete the study guide and to read DeMarco pp 40-44 (+ do Ex 2-5). You may also like to complete the Len study guide (Ex #16) that I issued the other day. I didn't assign the DeMarco work to the morning class, but getting a head start tonight will mean less work over the weekend. You should now expect some reading every night of the course; sometimes it will be paired with some sort of a written exercise.
