  1. It took the Crusaders 3 years across 3,000 miles to arrive in Jerusalem, and many of them died from dehydration, starvation, disease or at the hands of their enemies along the way.

  2. An eye witness told the people that they were sending an army of spirits from god.
After a while the men were forced to drink the blood of their horses due to dehydration.
They cooked the flesh of the of the dead and they ate it.

  4. I learned that the Crusades were dying of hunger so they would eat the dead corps of the Muslims it was also to strike fear into the enemies.
I also learned that the Crusades would take them 3 weeks just to cross mountains.

  5. Things in the Crusades were more brutal than had been seen before. They were forced into things that we would never what to,or even think to do. They had done things like draining their own horse's blood to drink after being nearly wiped out by famine, even that wasn't the worst thing they did. After taking over one more city, hunger drove them to cannibalism. They ate the flesh of dead humans, children and elders, woman and man, everyone they could striking fear into the enemies hearts.

  6. 60 thousand people gathered for the Crusade. The Crusaders were so hungry and thirsty that they had to drain blood from their horses to survive. The Christians who lived in Antioch were locked out because the leader of Antioch thought they might help the Crusaders.

  7. The Crusaders were highly motivated to take Antioch because it was the place where the first christian church existed. However it was not taken by simply storming the gates a traitor allowed them axes through one of the towers. As soon as the the castle was taken Muslims approached the city the men were tired and their moral was low a priest led band of men and supposedly found the spear that killed god this inspired the army and they expelled the Muslims.

  8. Some observations I made from documentary was that they were cruel to there horses because they were starving and they needed to drink there blood. Another observation I made was that when they got to maarrat al-Nu' man was where they killed everyone they saw and that inspired them to go to Jerusalem.

  9. The two big things that the crusaders did in the first crusade was fight off many foes, hunger, thirst, and diseases. They also found many relics when they were in times of need. They sacked Maarrat al-Nu'man, killed every living person and looted everything in the cite. The crusaders also eat off the dead.

  10. The Crusaders suffered from starvation and thirst for example they drained blood from horses and drank it. When they were traveling it took three weeks to cross a mountain because they traveled in single file. They ate children and people just to prove that they were big guys. -Dom

  11. The crusaders journey was horrid and painful. They suffered from great thirst and hunger. Throughout their travels there were many casualties, one of which who was Baldwin's wife. Her death, for Baldwin, meant that her riches would no longer be available to him. His grief was then accompanied by greed and lust for riches. Following the tragic event, Baldwin betrayed the Crusaders and left to pursue his hunt for land and opportunities to gain riches. He soon took control of the city Edessa and therefor ruled. - Maya

  12. My observation from the documentary is that most of the crusaders were not allowed into Constantinople because the Emperor was worried about the behaviours of so many solders in the walls. Crusader behaviours could be terrible. For an example, they killed all the people in Maarrat al-Nu' man and ate them. Even though crusaders could be very cruel, they could also survive very difficult times. They had to cut their horses and drink the blood of horses because they ran out of food.

  13. The two main things i observed from the documentary were that it took the crusaders 3 years to travel 3,000 miles to reach their main goal. Also they had many challenges to conquer and had to do some strange things to survive. For example, they had many problems with dehydration, they ended up bleeding their horses and drinking the blood to try and stay hydrated.

  14. While in Antioch, some of the crusaders were so hungry they resorted to eating the corpses that they had just slaughtered, elderly, women and men and even children. Also while in Antioch, one man claimed that the spear the stabbed Jesus was hidden in a small church, they found a spear, but without much evidence, it is not known if he was correct.

  15. The crusades were horrible times. The crusaders risked their lives to get to the holy land, and on that journey they struggled with thirst, hunger, pain and disease. Most men died from disease or hunger. In Maarrat Al-nu'man most men couldn't cope and ate the flesh of the people they killed. On the journey they would drain their horses blood and drink it. After 3 long suffering years the crusaders reached Jerusalem and plotted to attack.

  16. The crusades were very hard workers. They spent 3 years and traveled 3000 miles to get to the walls of the castle in jerusalem. The Crusades were starving and thirsty, they drank horses blood and even human flesh. The crusades would kill anyone, Elders, women and even children.

  17. My observations from the documentary are that the Crusaders were some of the most vicious, brutal people of that time. They showed no remorse in killing those whom didn't even deserve death, not to mention murdering children and elders, men and woman, innocent civilians who did absolutely nothing wrong or to oppose them. They were mostly powered by blood-lust and greed, their religious beliefs giving them a sense of elitism and considered themselves higher then the other Christians they killed. They weren't all powerful though, not in the least. Outside of Antioch, they were so starved and so thirsty and the famine in the group was absolutely outrageous, they stooped so low as to drink their own horses blood, and that wasn't the first nor last time they struggled, as before that they had crossed the Anti-Taurus mountains, taking three laborious weeks and plenty of pain.

  18. ok ok ok so these crusader jerks go to maarrat al-Nu' man and kill everybody ok so thats not to bad but then they go AND EAT EVERYBODY they also drank theyre horses blood when they were outside of antioch flippin' cannibals "except with the horse blood but still gross" i would never do that, but then again they were all crazy

  19. Something I noticed is that the crusader army kept breaking their vows and the ten commandments. Instead of returning the land to the emperor they kept it for their own. They also killed excessively and resorted to cannibalism and they drank their horse's blood and it looked liked they extracted it from them while the horse was alive.

  20. My observations from the documentary was how harsh the Crusader were to the children, women, and elderly by killing all of them. The Crusaders were often dying of thirst and hunger so they were forded to drink their own horses blood.

  21. My observation was that the Crusaders would stop at nothing to over rule every city they could. They even resulted in killing children because of how angry they were, and eating dead human flesh and drinking horse blood due to their starvation and thirst. Many people died because of not having enough to eat and drink. The Crusaders had a very strong motivation and thirst for power and thats what got the 13 000 soldiers to Jerusalem.

  22. Some facts i learned from the documentary include how the crusaders were so starved of any resources that they were forced to drink the blood of their horses and eat grain from animal poop. a second fact i learned is that Yahgi-Siyan tricked the Christians into getting locked out of Antioch.

  23. The crusaders did not stay in one group. Instead when one of the leader's of the crusades wife died he decided to go off with a small group of a couple hundred soldiers to conquer Edessa. The rest went off to break into Antioch; which was well protected by Yahgi-Siyan. The crusaders stayed outside Antioch for 8 long months thirsty and starving. By this time barely half the crusade soldiers had survived

  24. Some of the facts I gained from the documentary were these: First I found that the Crusaders were very devoted to their religion and would do almost anything for their God. Second the Crusaders were very thirsty and hungry on their long voyage, for example they would drink horse blood and eat grains from bird poop.

  25. The crusades where religious wars between Christians and Muslims for control of Jerusalem and the holly lands. Other city's like Antioch Maarrat al-Nu'Man. Manny people died in the crusades but the Christians took jerusalem. In the crusading times the crusaders would eat human flesh and drink blood from horses. The crusades where bad times for everyone involved.

  27. The crusades to the holy land were based on Pope Urban's II's hunger for political power. Their journey was full of Starvation and hunger. They did many terrible deeds such as eating the flesh of their enemies and roasting children of splits. Philip F

  28. Thank you to those who have had a chance to post their comments. It is interesting to see how many of you have focused on the physical suffering involving in the journey and the waiting that was involved during the sieges. There was certainly many behaviours that seemed self serving and far from the "noble cause" that seemed to exist in the beginning. I found myself considering that humanity has much capacity for violence and our examination of the Crusades is an interesting backdrop to the internationalism that is being highlighted at the Sochi Olympic games.

  29. The crusaders were down on moral fighting all the time so one crusader got the plan to help the troops. The Crusader, Peter Barthelmu said that he had a vision that god had given. He said that god had told him that a relic was buried under a church. If found victory if not failure was foretold. They went to the church and started digging. After a while of digging still nothing was found but it was Peter Barthoumu that went in the hole and pulled out the relic. The crusader troop’s moral greatly rose and gave the crusaders the will to fight of the Islam’s. The Muslim side of the story told though that Peter was smart and that he buried the relic and covered his tracks, but they did not know if his vision was from god. In the end either god will or Peter’s cunning the miracle worked.

  30. My observation about the documentary was that the Crusaders showed no weakness when it came to their enemies and how low they would go to claim the prize of the Crusades, the Holy Land of Jerusalem. The battle between the Muslims and the Christians in the 11th century was full of disease, starvation and water deprived months, to the extent that drinking the blood of their horses was the only source of living. Fighting to the death for only a small strip of land brought on killing innocent children and the elderly. On top of that, the rage for power and food left them to turn to cannibalism. In no means was the time of the Crusades anything but a brutal period of living.

  31. My observations were that when the crusaders went to fight they traveled by horse. The men who fought brought their wives, kid and pets.

  32. Hey sorry I haven't been able to post anything due to my browser (Safari) not working. Some of the observations that I made were that several people died before they even got to the walls of Jerusalem. Most of them ether died from hunger, or dehydration. Another thing I noticed was that the Crusaders were very devoted to there religion, and would do just about anything to win the holy land.
