The Shinto religion was based on a series of traditions and costumes. It involved pilgrimages to famous places and shrines. There was no creed in the Shinto religion. The kami were not gods in the western sense they could be mountains, streams, rocks, or ancestors. Any object or person who inspired. The emperor had the most connection to the gods. The essence of the Shintoism is to follow the gods and to believe in them.
