History 12-1: March Revolution

Today we debriefed Demarco and then discussed the events of the March Revolution- we'll finish the events of 1917 tomorrow.
For homework please read DeMarco pp. 43-46 and do Ex 5 and 6.

Today we learned about the first battles of the Crusades, including the capture of Antioch. There is no homework unless you have yet to complete the castle project

Today we opened with a reading from the text and then watched three short clips from the People's History. We also watched two short clips about Métis culture: one on medicines and one on the sash. Finally, I asked that you do one more reading and create a list of five important points in the form of bullet-notes. There is no homework, unless you are still missing the canoe/York boat paragraph.

Today we reviewed the table from yesterday's reading and then attempted to discuss the reading from DeMarco, but few people had done their homework. We'll review Ex 1 tomorrow with today's homework. I hold you in high esteem after the results from the first unit test; I know that you don't get graded for your homework, but please show that you don't just "work for marks" because I much prefer to treat you like college students than high schoolers.

Next, we read a summary of the Stolypin agricultural reforms and the new prime minister's reaction to the terrorism and expropriations that were so common in that era. From there, we finished our analysis of the Fundamental Laws and noted that the Tsar kept far too much power from the Duma to make it really effective as a means to modernize the monarchy. At that point I stopped to give you the last 25 minutes to read and answer today's assignment:

In DeMarco, read pp. 39-40 and answer all of Ex #2 and read pp. 40-41and answer all of Ex #3 and all of Ex #4 EXCEPT you need not write the paragraph for "f." (Remember, if you didn't do yesterday's work, you also have Ex #1 to compete).

Socials 10-2: Aboriginal Culture: the James Bay Cree

Today we began by outlining things we already know about First Nations culture. We created a T-chart to compare West Coast First Nations with those of the Plains. Next, we saw a short video that showed how the James Bay Cree of Mistassini tan a moose hide. I think you did well in your observations. We noted the mix of tradition and modern ways. We used the last half hour to complete our canoe/York boat paragraphs. Please get those in to me ASAP; I also asked that you read pp. 135 - 138 in the text for homework.

Socials 8-1 and 8-2: Finishing the Crescent and the Cross

Today we started by comparing and contrasting (finding similarities and differences) between the Muslim fortifications shown in the film and the castles we studied earlier. We then finished the documentary. Afterwords we did some preliminary writing activities associated with key words. This involved some collaborative and critical thinking. Please ensure you come to the next class with today's paperwork. There is no homework.
